Emmanuel Adebayor

The soccer player Emmanuel Adebayor was born on February 26, 1984 in Lome. Emmanuel is from Nigerian descent and he plays presently as a striker for Arsenal. This soccer player is famous for his aggressive style of soccer playing and indomitable spirit to achieve an optimum performance.

Adebayor started his professional career in a club of Lome and he managed to make the training at U-15 level and was selected by French Club FC Metz. There was an initial trial and finally Adebayor joined the club in the year 1999 and was qualified for U-17 level of playing. He continued the playing of U-17 level for next two years until he decided to join his first team. In his first playing session he played nine games and scored two goals. In the session 2002-2003 Adebayor scored 17 goals and he played in 35 games.

He made a contract with AS Monaco in the year 2003 and scoared seven goals out of seventeen matches. AS Monaco qualified for the final match of champion league with a performance of two goals out of 10 match appearance.
On January 13, 2006, Adebayor joined Arsenal and till date his joining fee was not disclosed. He made his debut in March for Arsenal and scored after 21 min of the play. However, he had to skip the final match as he appeared for Monaco in the qualifying round that year so was not eligible to represent another team in the same season.

At Arsenal he was given the pet name Baby Kanu on the memory of the famous player of Nwankwo Kanu. Adebayor himself was a great fan of him and used to consider Kanu as his idol in his early youth. In Arsenal his jersey number is 25 and he plays in the striker position of the team.

2006-2007 was an undisputed year of leadership for Adebayor. Many times he gave Arsenal the winning goal and these added new feathers in his crowning glory. Before the league began, Adebayor was fouled badly by his opponent team players and Arsenal earned a penalty for that foul although it was missed by Gilberto Silva. On 2006 November 8, Adebayor scored the only goal in the match and qualified Arsenal for the quarter final of League cup against Everton.

In Carling Cup final against Chelsea he was shown a red card for badly hurting a player of Chelsea and being in the field even after the red card was shown to him. He was penalized with a fee of 7500 GBP and a consequent ban for three matches in that particular football season.

Despite being eligible for Nigeria he selected to play for Togo as his international team. He contributed 11 goals for Togo and made the team qualify in the qualifying round. His contribution was more than any other contribution made by other African players and for his astounding contribution he was nominated as the African Footballer of the year.
